in and around Sale where you can spend your leisure time.
By following the River Mersey towpath you can travel for miles in both directions. For more info on the Water Park, water sports, the area, its wildlife and coming events being held by the wardens see the links at the top of this page. With the building of the M63 motor-way in 1972, the extraction of gravel at Sale left a large water-filled hole of about 35 acres. The lake and surrounding area was developed and in May 1980 it was opened as a Water Park. Trafford Leisure Services operate a programme of activities throughout the year for the public, groups and clubs. Details and conditions of use of the lake are available at the Water Sports Centre where everyone wishing to use the lake must report to. Facilities now include the Mersey Valley Visitor Centre, Trafford Water Sports Centre, restaurant, car park, nature reserves, events fields, childrens' playframe plus an extensive network of footpaths and bridle ways. Water facilities include sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, model boating and angling.
